Why Live in Bottelier Curaçao?
Bottelier is known for its tranquil atmosphere and architectural diversity. The neighborhood’s elevated position grants breathtaking views of Lagun Jan Thiel, particularly from homes situated at the top of the hill. The area benefits from the constant cooling breeze that flows across the island, providing natural ventilation and comfort.
Natural Surroundings
The nearby Jan Thiel Salt Flats lie between Seaquarium Beach and Jan Thiel Beach. This picturesque nature reserve is perfect for walking, jogging, horseback riding, or mountain biking. Bottelier’s Rich History
Bottelier, like many neighborhoods in Curaçao, originally functioned as a plantation. In the 19th century, Bottelier spanned approximately 60 hectares, making it one of the smaller plantations on the island. Historically known as “Lange Tuyn” (Long Garden), it was the only plantation on Curaçao that employed plowing techniques to cultivate the land—an innovation for the time. This mechanized approach distinguished Bottelier as a pioneering plantation during an era when most work was done manually.
Today, Landhuis Bottelier retains traces of its rich past. While much of the original structure has been renovated, several authentic gables still reflect its historical character.
